The I'D offers a dramatic improvement in safety over conventional rappel devices. Its auto-locking feature not only makes work on rope more efficient, it greatly increases safety. The handle unlocks the rope and the rappel is controlled with your brake hand. If the user panics and pulls the handle too far, the I'D stops the descent. The handle also has a positive lock-off position for work positioning. The I'D works on static, low-stretch and dynamic kernmantle ropes. The straight rope path will not twist or kink the rope like a Figure 8 descender. The recommended working load is 66-330 lbs (30-150 kg). For rescue applications, higher loads up to 550 lbs (250 kg) are acceptable if certain precautions are followed. Maximum descent distance: 660 ft (200 m).

Recommended for short descents and climbs, its efficiency makes working on rope less tiring and safer. When weighted, such as during a rappel or fall, the cam grips the rope. The handle is used to unlock the rope and together with your brake hand, controls the descent.

Originally designed for single rope descents in caving, the Stop has become a standard tool for the rope access worker. The Stop is designed to automatically "stop" the descent when the red handle is not depressed. To descend, push the handle to release the brake and control the descent with your brake hand. A safety catch allows the rope to be rigged without disconnecting the Stop from your harness. For use on single ropes from 9 to 12 mm.

The SMC Tie-Off Bar makes it easier to tie-off a brake bar rack. The resulting tie off is less likely to slip and is easier to undo to resume the descent. The bar is stainless steel for high wear and the hollow bar design allows for better heat dissipation. The Tie-Off Bar can be used whether the rack is set up with aluminum or stainless steel bars.

Assembled SMC Brake Bar Racks use the SMC 6 Bar Rack frame, SMC Tie-Off Bar, and 5 aluminum or stainless steel bars. Generally, the stainless steel bars will provide longer wear and avoid aluminum deposits on your rope. The twisted eye positions the rack in the correct alignment when using a rescue harness with a front D-Ring or when clipped into an anchor for a lowering system. The traditional straight eye works well with caving and climbing harnesses.
